Working in a small team of workshop engineers to service, maintain, and customise machinery in line with customer needs. Daily duties include working with mechanical, electrical and pneumatic elements. Working across departments such as service, R&D, Stores to coordinate various information needed. This is a hands on role.

Key Dutiesandresponsibilities

The main responsibilities of the Workshop engineer are set out below.

  • Working to set checklists to prepare machines prior to sale or customer on-site use
  • Performing service and/or maintenance on industrial food processing and packaging machinery
  • Building control panels from scratch using mechanical, electrical and pneumatic components
  • Fault finding on electrical systems
  • Designing small scale electrical and pneumatic systems in order to fill unique customer requirements
  • Changing or retrofitting electrical, mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic machine parts for a variety of food processing and packaging machinery according to customer requirements
  • Working on projects or machinery both alone at times and as part of a team.
  • Stripping down existing machinery and carrying out repairs
  • Manoeuvring heavy machinery around the warehouse and workshop using forklift truck or pump truck
  • Ability to use safe Manual handling practices to move heavy machinery parts.
  • Awareness of COSHH safe working practices
  • Accurately documenting and recording machine information to ensure that all departments are kept informed
  • Using word and excel to create, edit and document various process in the warehouse
  • Programming drives with pre-programmed manufacturer software and settings
  • Maintaining clean and safe work area at all times
  • Liaising with stores team to ensure accurate booking-out of any required machine parts
  • Cleaning machinery parts
  • Working with various electrical systems (single phase, 3-phase and 24v)
  • Working with R&D to ensure that projects designed in-house are fit for customer purpose
  • Working with Service to communicate about machinery in the workshop
  • Working with service engineers to support them with machinery queries

Skills&Experience

Necessary Qualifications/Skills

  • NVQ level 2 in an engineering discipline
  • Great communicator
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Hands on approach
  • COSHH awareness
  • Hands on experience with pneumatics, electrical and mechanical engineering
  • Computer literacy and ability to use Microsoft software (Word, excel, outlook)

Desirable Qualifications/Skills

  • NVQ level 3 in an engineering discipline
  • Level 3 BTEC in engineering (or equivalent)
  • Apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical engineering
  • Forklift licence
  • Experience of using drawing software or programming software would be highly beneficial
  • Experience of using Solidworks, Rockwell Alan Bradley and Omron software desirable but not essential
  • Experience of deciding panel layout of electrical systems
