We are currently working with a leading facilities management company in recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial aspects of project delivery on their government contract.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the successful candidate will provide financial and contractual expertise, ensuring best practices are followed across all projects. This role involves both site and office-based work, with some travel to the London site too.

Security Clearance is a mandatory requirement for this position.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Project & Commercial Management: Maximise commercial success by managing budgeting, cost control, reporting, and financial performance across projects.
  • Procurement & Tendering: Oversee the full procurement process, including tender drafting, sending quotations, making recommendations, and awarding contracts under NEC3/NEC4 frameworks.
  • Contract Management: Handle contract variations, claims, and valuations, ensuring all additional works are documented and recovered. Lead monthly reporting and updates.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Negotiation: Liaise with key stakeholders, including designers and subcontractors. Manage informal disputes and contract negotiations to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Government Estate Construction: Oversee refurbishment and fit-out projects (rail industry experience not required).
  • Subcontractor & Supplier Management: Select, negotiate, and manage subcontractors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and compliance.
  • Programme & Performance Monitoring: Ensure adherence to schedules, budgets, and contract terms while identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Future Team Leadership: While initially an independent role, management responsibilities will develop over time.

What We Are Looking For:

Essential:

  • Qualified to HND or Degree level in Quantity Surveying.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of contract law and experience with NEC contracts (pre & post contract).
  • Experience working in the public sector, ideally with government contracts.
  • Ability to travel between sites as needed.
  • Skilled in evaluating tender submissions and producing analytical reports.
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including knowledge of current contract legislation.
  • Excellent numerical, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience in negotiating contract terms to successful closeout.
  • Knowledge of application of payment mechanisms.

Desirable:

  • Member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) or working towards membership.
