Adecco are pleased to be recruiting for an Identification Officer to join Thames Valley Police.

This position is working 37 hours Monday - Sunday on a shift pattern, between the hours of 8am and 8pm. This position will be on site based in Abingdon or Milton Keynes, however you will need a full UK Drivers Licence and have the ability to travel to different locations across the force area.

The rate is £15.54 plus 11% shift allowance - therefore the rate will be £17.25.

This is a temporary position initially until the end of March 2025.

The overall purpose of the role is to: carry out administration and identification procedures in accordance with current legislation and force policy, ensuring timely liaison with the OIC and CPS and ensuring that the needs of victims, witnesses and the investigation are properly catered for.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Arrange and carry out all Identification procedures (including 'captures', compilations, showings, recording and exhibiting of evidence etc.) to required standard ensuring compliance with PACE, case law and local procedures and policies, as well as ensuring the necessary administration in completed in a timely manner. This may include providing cover to other areas at the direction of the Police Inspector.
  • Take responsibility for managing the workload within your area of responsibility, including rearranging appointments to accommodate 'in Custody' cases and ensuring that all departmental appointments are recorded in the booking diary.
  • Provide witnesses and solicitors with the required information regarding parade timings, ensuring they are fully cognisant of the process. Be responsible for the legal and financial consequences of making a decision (i.e. cancelling a procedure) in consultation with the OIC / ID Manager and in accordance with PACE.
  • Respond to legal challenges surrounding identification issues and be able to justify the procedures undertaken in accordance with the law both pre, during and after the procedure. This includes attending court to give evidence if necessary.
  • Provide an up to date advisory service to the Force in respect of identification procedures in consultation with the Police Inspector.

Skills Required:

  • Good standard of education including excellent numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Proven customer service skills with a particular focus on engaging effectively with people at all levels in potentially aggressive encounters.
  • IT Literate and the ability to learn and use IT packages effectively.
  • Proven ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure and to gather and record information effectively within set procedures, in a logical and easily understood format and style.
  • Proven ability to work unsupervised. Have the ability to work within a team whilst being able to self-motivate.
  • Proven relevant experience (i.e. IT or Photographic).
  • Knowledge of VIPER procedures for capture of suspect and subsequent showing of parade to witness(es), including laptop facility (Training will be given).
  • Knowledge of databases used to record procedures, WORD, Excel, Access, LAN, Outlook, Niche, other databases are used to check, review and up-date results.
  • Knowledge of stated cases that have an impact on identification (to be gained on the job).
  • Due to Police Criteria, you must have lived in the UK for at least the last 3 years to apply for this post.
