On our path to reach these goals, we now have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Butchery Manager to join us at this exciting time of business growth. You will act as the SME with regard to all matters requiring butchery knowledge, specifically raw material intake, raw material specification advice, and any factory processes requiring knife skills

With your expert knowledge of carcase, cuts, and butchery on Beef, Pork, and Poultry, a proven ability in management and delivery, your technical expertise,, and solid leadership skills will prove invaluable in the ongoing, and continued provision of the excellent standard level delivered to our customers, incumbents, and our business overall.

Key Accountabilities:

  • To provide expert knowledge of carcase, cuts, and butchery on [all] species; Beef, Pork, Poultry (Turkey & Chicken)
  • To work in close partnership Group Procurement, Site Technical & Planning Depts re raw material adherence to agreed specifications
  • To provide oversight and specific product knowledge to the Intake QA team; advising and inspiring in order to ensure the continued effectiveness of intake checks, determining and supporting the raising of non-conformance reporting, or decision to reject to supplier as necessary
  • To participate in supplier, and external customer visits (both on and off site) as required
  • To provide practical butchery training workshops to upskill operators in safe and skillful knife use across various shifts as required
  • To work in close partnership with the Site Development team demonstrating carcass knowledge and optimum utilisation in establishing raw material specifications suitable for new product development
  • To work in partnership EH&S team in promoting safe use of knives
  • To support and drive the quality food culture across the site
  • Any other task as reasonably requested by your line manager

Knowledge/Skills/Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of Primary Processing and carcase meats various species.
  • Evidence of ability to identify factors affecting product quality.
  • Demonstrable skills in safe use of knife and practical butchery
  • Effective communication skills (both up/down)
  • Effective skills in coaching & mentoring
  • Previous experience of leading small groups
  • High degree of energy and enthusiasm
  • Comfortable, and ‘at-home’ in the factory environment (the role is principally shop-floor based)
  • Flexibility to work across different shifts and different factory depts as necessary
  • Supportive and encouraging approach to skills training
  • Clarity of thinking re raw material attributes
  • Willingness to take instruction and work in a collaborative cross-functional manner
  • Able to demonstrate our site behaviors and values.
