Your new school
I am currently working with a lovely mainstream school in Merton who are looking for a dynamic SEN teacher to join their team. Your amazing new, School has fantastic purpose-built facilities, a caring and friendly SLT who are great communicators and work closely with staff rather than staying tucked away in their offices. This school has an amazing multidisciplinary team with physiotherapists, occupational therapist, speech and language therapists and special school support assistants, all working co-cooperatively with the teaching staff to meet the individual needs of the students.

As the successful SEN Teacher your class will have a great, caring, understanding team of SEN TA staff who are experienced and very communicative and will be invaluable support in ensuring all the children in your class achieve the very best they can. Your new school has an extremely happy environment, with passionate staff who see children as individuals and work enthusiastically to ensure all children thrive.


Your new SEN Teacher role
As an SEN Teacher, you will be monitoring and reporting on the progress of pupils. You will be required to provide lesson plans and resources to match the teaching standards of the school. You will be using various methods to assist in conveying the lessons to children in an interactive and dynamic way.

As the successful SEN teacher, you will be providing 1:1 and group teaching and support to 7 pupils, assisted by TAs in the classroom with any additional support needed or required. The pupils will all have a diagnosis of SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties) or PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties) and will be working at Pre School or very low National Curriculum levels. Many students require additional support for eating and drinking and will receive appropriate levels of support from trained staff. Students with medical needs will have an agreed health care plan and identified staff will be trained to be able to support their needs.

As an SEN Teacher supporting students with effective communication is a priority and they have a total communication approach which means that you will incorporate all strategies that are useful and meaningful to aid the students in their communication. You can draw on advice and support from speech and language therapist and those staff that have been trained in specific techniques such as Picture Exchange Communication system and eye gaze. As a Movement Opportunities via Education (MOVE) centre of excellence the school promotes functional mobility and work with parents and therapy staff to enable students to develop their skills with sitting, standing, and walking. Your new role is full time.

What you'll need to succeed as an SEN Teacher

  • You must be a qualified teacher with QTS and/or PGCE
  • You must have UK teaching experience
  • You must be passionate about working with SEND
