Job Summary:

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Project Engineering Manager (PEM) to lead multi-discipline engineering teams in the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and Detailed Engineering phases of key projects within the Sellafield DDP Framework. This role is crucial in ensuring the seamless coordination, integration, and management of engineering activities across various disciplines, primarily overseeing projects related to new buildings, demolition, decommissioning, CE&I, and mechanical installations.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Leadership & Coordination:

  • Lead and coordinate multi-discipline engineering teams through FEED and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) phases.
  • Ensure smooth integration between engineering disciplines by managing engineers assigned to each specific discipline.
  • Oversee subcontractor performance and ensure quality, schedule, and budget alignment.
  • Support the Project Manager in technical decision-making, risk management, and change control processes.

Engineering & Technical Oversight:

  • Provide engineering leadership across civils, mechanical, CE&I, and structural disciplines.
  • Drive engineering compliance with regulatory and Sellafield-specific requirements.
  • Support constructibility reviews, hazard identification, and design risk assessments.
  • Ensure that engineering deliverables align with safety case requirements, stakeholder expectations, and overall project goals.

Stakeholder Management & Communication:

  • Act as the primary engineering interface between project stakeholders, including Sellafield Ltd, design subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Facilitate engineering reviews, design approvals, and technical coordination meetings.
  • Work closely with project controls, procurement, and construction teams to ensure alignment on project objectives.

Project Execution & Site Engagement:

  • Ensure that engineering design work translates effectively into practical construction deliverables.
  • Attend project sites to support project execution and integration.
  • Drive lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives for project delivery.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience in leading multi-discipline engineering teams through the FEED and EPC phases of complex projects.
  • Experience in the nuclear sector (or similarly regulated industries such as oil & gas, pharmaceuticals, or defence).
  • Strong technical background in civil, structural, mechanical, and CE&I disciplines, with a focus on project integration and coordination.
  • Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and internal engineering teams in a highly regulated environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in stakeholder engagement and engineering governance within major infrastructure projects.
  • Security Clearance (SC) required (or ability to obtain).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree-qualified in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline) or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.
  • Experience working with Sellafield Ltd projects or within the UK nuclear framework is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant UK nuclear industry standards, safety case principles, and engineering regulations.

Location & Working Arrangement:

  • Hybrid working model: A minimum of 2 days per week required at the Westlakes Office, Cumbria, with flexibility to work remotely for the remainder.
  • Occasional site visits as required depending on project demands.
