Parking Engineer - Local Authority

Our client is seeking a skilled and dedicated Parking Engineer to join their Sustainable Communities division. In this role, you will deliver comprehensive parking management services, ensuring a high standard of service and advice for the council, residents, and businesses. You will lead the implementation of various parking schemes and manage programmes ranging from minor parking control amendments to large-scale parking projects, including Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) and EV charging bays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver on-street parking schemes such as CPZs, EV charging bays, and cycle hire bays.
  • Manage a programme of parking schemes and coordinate implementation, including consultation and engagement with stakeholders.
  • Conduct safety audits and ensure compliance with relevant legislation for parking safety and access.
  • Identify and manage parking needs arising from special events, highway works, and new developments.
  • Collaborate with other departments and external partners to optimize the council's parking portfolio and equipment.
  • Monitor, review, and adjust parking tariffs in line with best practices.
  • Provide professional advice on complex parking management issues and support the development of borough-wide parking policies.
  • Liaise with agencies such as Transport for London (TfL), emergency services, public transport operators, and local businesses.

Person Specification:

  • Experience in managing parking schemes, including CPZs and parking bay installations.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and parking management best practices.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections, safety audits, and project management.
  • Experience working in a public sector or local government setting.
  • Knowledge of highway and traffic engineering principles.
  • Experience in managing budgets and providing financial information.
  • Familiarity with the use of IT systems for digital mapping and data management.
