Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and reliable Sports Groundspersonto join our team in Morden. In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of various sports grounds, including fine turf bowling greens, football pitches, rugby fields, and other recreational areas. The ideal candidate will have experience in ground maintenance, turf care techniques, and equipment operation, ensuring all grounds are safe, playable, and aesthetically pleasing for users.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and care for sports grounds, including fine turf bowling greens, football, rugby, and other athletic fields.
  • Mow, aerate, fertilise, and irrigate turf, with particular attention to the specialised care required for fine turf bowling greens.
  • Oversee turf management, including re-seeding, patching, and treating for pests, diseases, and weeds.
  • Mark out pitches, courts, and tracks in accordance with competition standards, ensuring precise measurements and clear markings.
  • Prepare fine turf bowling greens to meet high-quality playing conditions, including rolling, topdressing, and ensuring smooth, level surfaces.
  • Set up and take down sports equipment, such as goals, nets, and field markers, as required for events and activities.
  • Ensure all grounds are kept clear of debris and litter to maintain a safe and attractive environment.
  • Operate grounds maintenance machinery, including lawnmowers, tractors, rollers, and aerators.
  • Manage irrigation systems, ensuring proper coverage and efficient water usage, particularly for sensitive turf like bowling greens.
  • Monitor and maintain the condition of sports facilities, making repairs or adjustments as needed.
  • Assist with setting up and supporting events or matches, ensuring the field is prepared and ready.
  • Keep accurate records of work performed, materials used, and maintenance schedules.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and industry best practices in all activities.
  • Maintain a tidy and organised work environment, including tool storage and machinery areas.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a groundspersonor in sports turf maintenance, with knowledge of fine turf bowling green management.
  • A valid driving license is required to operate vehicles and transport equipment across sites.
  • Knowledge of turf care techniques, including mowing, aerating, fertilising, and pest control.
  • Experience in maintaining fine turf bowling greens to a high standard, including rolling, leveling, and maintaining smooth surfaces.
  • Ability to use and maintain groundskeeping machinery (training may be provided).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Good physical fitness, with the ability to lift and carry heavy equipment.
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • A commitment to maintaining a high standard of work and ensuring safety for all users of the sports facilities.
