Brief job description: My Clients are world leaders in the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of advanced vacuum and controlled atmosphere furnace equipment. Over fifty years of experience have gone into developing our technology and equipment to process the most advanced materials for critical and demanding applications.
My Client a strategic part of one of the worlds largest groups developing technologies for the melting and processing of high-performance metals and alloys. ISO 9001 certified, with operations worldwide.

They currently seek a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team based from our European manufacturing base in Eurocentral, Lanarkshire.
Responsibilities
Preparation of fabrication, layout and schematic drawings, assembly and sub-assembly drawings with bill of materials;
Complete project-based, mechanical design and detailing work of machined components, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic drive systems;
Execute mechanical design calculations and analysis. Some examples of Calculations follow. Mechanical strength calculations simple stress calculations from first principles to check if the designed components are good for purpose, Design of components like shafts, linkages in mechanisms for required torque, speed and duty conditions, Selections of drive components like motors, gearboxes, chain drives, Selection of structural members for mechanical loading basic mechanics and strength of materials, Thermal calculations heat transfer (conduction, convection, radiation) not essential but good to have

2D drawing using AutoCAD, 3D modelling work using SolidWorks;
Meeting engineering schedules for design and detailing work;
Attend and participate in internal design review meetings and customer meetings;
Answer queries from our manufacturing department as well as customers and suppliers relating to the prepared engineering drawings;
Complete duties relating to work assigned by the line Manager;
Help prepare operation and maintenance manuals;
Some travel both within the UK and internationally may be required.

Requirements
Proven working experience as a Design Engineer
Proficient in mechanical parameters and appropriate engineering formulas to perform mechanical design calculations, in order to determine critical factors and ensure compliance with specifications and safety standards
Knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD, Solid works, Mathcad
Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices and performance standards
Ability to work with multiple discipline projects
MS Office skills
Time management and organisation skills
Travel to customer and supplier sites, both UK and worldwide, as required
Ideally, applicants should be qualified to Degree level and have extensive experience within an engineering environment to be considered for this role.
