We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Transport Planner to enhance our team’s capabilities and support our growth. This role is ideal for someone passionate about logistics and eager to advance in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.Day-to-day of the role:
Route Planning: Develop cost-effective and efficient routes for UK deliveries, ensuring optimal resource use and cost minimisation.Transport Management System (TMS): Maintain the TMS with current job information, tracking, and delivery details.Job Booking: Schedule transport jobs, including vehicle arrangements and bookings for ferries and trains.Sourcing Backloads: Actively seek and secure backloads to maximise vehicle capacity and minimise empty runs.Customer Liaison: Communicate with customers about delivery schedules, adjustments, or issues, ensuring top-notch customer service.Manifests & Load Creation: Produce and manage manifests for each load, verifying all details are accurate and necessary documents are prepared.Warehouse Coordination: Collaborate closely with the warehouse team to ensure efficient truck turnaround times and timely dispatch of goods.Cost Management: Monitor and control transport costs, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost reductions.Problem Solving: Resolve delivery-related issues, including delays, customer inquiries, or unexpected transport challenges.Compliance: Ensure all deliveries adhere to UK transport regulations, including safety and legal standards for vehicles and goods.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Proven experience in transport planning or logistics.Strong knowledge of UK road networks and transport regulations.Familiarity with Transport Management Systems (TMS) or similar planning tools.Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively liaising with customers, drivers, and internal teams.Ability to handle pressure, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.Strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.Experience in route planning, scheduling, and booking ferries/trains is desirable.A proactive, results-driven attitude with a focus on continuous improvement.
