We are pleased to be recruiting a Buyer for our established client in the Abercynon area.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the management and development of a portfolio of suppliers from whom our client buy goods and services that are critical to their operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for maintaining assigned supplier relations by selecting suppliers and negotiating prices for material and/or services required, so ensuring procurement of nominated materials and services to agreed programmes by the most economic, timely and efficient means.
  • Analyse, negotiate and report supplier price changes.
  • Conduct periodic commodity surveys to obtain price comparisons; evaluate market trends to develop new services and create cost savings.
  • Select new and alternative sources of supply and in collaboration with technical staff select new and alternative materials and services, providing technical and or commercial advantage to the company.
  • Ensure all purchasing requisitions and programmes are correct and reflect the current supplier's lead-times, keeping management and user departments informed where changes threaten work programmes.
  • Identify potential problem areas and recommend changes.
  • Minimise the company's exposure with regard to MOQ's and price increases, obtaining the relevant authority levels
  • Proactive liaison with other departments as necessary to forecast, plan to meet, and to supply demand to relevant quality.
  • Administration and reporting as required.
  • Payment terms negotiation, optimisation and management
  • To identify & drive continuous improvements within the areas of control.
  • Control and minimise excess and cost / stock.
  • International trading issues/imports/legal, awareness
  • Ensure compliance with company codes of conduct and H&S

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

The ideal candidates would have:

  • 3+ years' experience of Purchasing within a manufacturing or similar environment
  • Ability to think strategically with an innovative approach to problem solving
  • Excellent negotiation skills with proven track record of cost reduction through use of appropriate strategic purchasing tools
  • Familiar with ERP, MRP systems & Purchasing systems
  • Supplier Relationship Management
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines

This is a days regular role, Monday to Friday offering a salary between £25000-£35000 per year DOE.
