  • Our client is seeking Claims Investigation Officers for a 3-month contract in Abercynon, with a focus on managing Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury Claims. Our client is looking to recruit a Claims Investigation Officers on an initial 3 month contract in Abercynon.

To support the Team Manager - Claims in the provision and planning of safe high quality health care to patients across all areas, inclusive of the independent contractor services – in particular, the operational management the Claims aspect of Concerns* - and to contribute to safety of staff and visitors via the effective management of Personal Injury Claims.

In order to achieve this, the post holder will:

  • Support and update the Team Manager – Claims in the day to day management of Clinical Negligence, Personal Injury Claims and Inquests to ensure that claims are managed
  • Manage a caseload of Claims which are frequently complex in nature.
  • Manage Redress cases under Part 6 of the Putting things Right Regulations by conducting investigations, investigating breach of duty, causation, quantification and cost control on a daily basis.
  • Manage a caseload of Inquests, from commencement to conclusion, liaise directly with the Coroner’s Office, support staff, draft and amend witness statements, action plans and work to strict deadlines.
  • Prepare staff who are called to give evidence and inform and guide staff on Inquest process and to attend Inquests, and report back to senior staff the outcome of inquests and advise on remedial action if required. 
  • Undertake deputising responsibility for the legal functions of the team in the absence of the Claims Manager as required, ensuring that related organisational risks are identified and actioned accordingly.
  • Allocate work on a day to day basis to junior members of the team.
  • Provide expert legal advice on medico-legal issues e.g. consent on a frequent basis to staff at all levels in the organisation, including very senior managers and Executive Directors.

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in law (CILEX Qualifications), or equivalent claims management, redress and inquest experience.
  • Clear understanding of responsibilities relating to relevant aspects of the Data Protection Act and Freedom of Information Act.
  • Case management experience
  • Good knowledge of risk assessment tools and methodologies and Clinical Governance in general.
  • Clear understanding of the concept of evidence based practice and clinical effectiveness.
  • Relevant experience in law or related subject.
