Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

A well-established UK confectionery manufacturer with a long history of producing popular sweets. The company operates a modern production facility and supplies both the UK and international markets. Due to continued growth, they are looking to expand their maintenance engineering department and add new team members. Known for their strong brands and commitment to quality, they offer a supportive and collaborative working environment with opportunities for development. As a member of the multi skilled engineers team you will be able to ensure that proactive response to maintenance and breakdowns are available within a 24/7 environment. You will be supporting the operations team to achieve compliance to the production plan by minimising engineering downtime, increasing availability, performance and efficiency of the existing assets through continuous improvement techniques.

Providing effective and efficient timely responses to plant breakdowns and ensuring planned maintenance is completed on time and as per the PPM site requirements.

Salary

  • 20.26 per hour/ 769.88 per week/40,033.76 per annum - 21.68 per hour / 823.84 weekly/42,839.68 per annum

  • Monday/Thursday - 6:00am/2:00pm & Friday - 6:00am/12:00pm
  • Monday/Thursday - 2:00pm/10:00pm & Friday - 12:00pm/6:00pm
  • 38 Hour week

Location - New Mills

Overview

As a member of the multi skilled engineers team you will be able to ensure that proactive response to maintenance and breakdowns are available within a 24/7 environment. You will be supporting the operations team to achieve compliance to the production plan by minimising engineering downtime, increasing availability, performance and efficiency of the existing assets through continuous improvement techniques.

Providing effective and efficient timely responses to plant breakdowns and ensuring planned maintenance is completed on time and as per the PPM site requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support a culture that enhances awareness to reduce accidents and near misses
  • Carry out duties ensuring the site achieves and maintains required GMP standards
  • Provide 24 hour/7 day cover to production department
  • Attend machinery breakdowns & ensure that all measures taken are recorded on CMMS (Shire)
  • Provide first line maintenance support to the manufacturing departments
  • Line monitoring to improve efficiency
  • Carry out planned/scheduled maintenance tasks & record work done or required on CMMS (Shire)
  • Provide feedback for improving the planned maintenance system
  • Record planned maintenance tasks & breakdowns on the CMMS (Shire)
  • Order spare parts & liaise with Engineering Stores
  • Liaise with contractors & issue permits (if trained)
  • Assist with machinery installation and decommissioning
  • Participate in electrical and mechanical proactive and re-active maintenance to the best of your capability
  • Diagnose machine breakdowns and act accordingly
  • To communicate and escalate accordingly when assistance is required
  • Carry out routine equipment safety and maintenance inspections
  • Ensure all work conforms to statutory & safety requirements
  • Ensure that plant and equipment perform to manufacture product efficiently to high quality standards.
  • To liaise, assist with training and support other departments in general running of the factory.
  • Undertake the training of others as required for development and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to and help implement continuous improvement, to enhance quality, safety, efficiency and waste reduction.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement teams as required
  • Communicate daily with Team Leaders & Managers to ensure planned maintenance; engineering and production priorities are understood.

Experience

  • Time served engineering apprentice trained
  • NVQ Level (or equivalent within mechanical/electrical engineering)
