Job Title: Laboratory Technician - ConcreteLocation: NG22 0PQSector: Construction / ManufacturingType: PermanentSalary: £35,000 - £40,000Sutton Recruitment are working exclusively to recruit a Laboratory Technician to join a leading company who specialises in the production of innovative precast reinforced, pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete products.As the largest independent producer of pre-stressed bridge beams in Britain, who offer a comprehensive range of beam profiles as well as bespoke reinforced and post-tensioned products developed and tailored to the needs of individual projects.As the Laboratory Technician, you will work under the supervision of the Senior Technical Engineer with the objective of providing daily data to standard regulations and accreditations, conduct flow tests of daily products and be responsible for the laboratory as a whole.Main duties;• Daily procedure to test concrete strength by crushing cubes for 1, 7 and 28 days, recording all data in line with QC7B form and uploading to the system accurately.• Ensure to do and record flow test of every batch of concrete on day to day basis, keep eye on it during ongoing pour and if required re-check against flow to advise of adding water/superplasticizer.• Collect concrete samples daily in the correct way, whilst making cubes for 1, 7 and 28 days of every batch. This is to be in line with BS standard and accurately recorded on data sheets ensuring to match records with daily production sheets.• Ensure 7 and 28 day cubes are correctly identified within the curing tank.• Keeping the laboratory up to date, making sure tank temperature is at the set BS standards and record daily.• Daily stone tests daily utilising relevant equipment, to look at the moisture probability results and monitor whilst discussing any potential issues.• Ensure microwave testing is completed 3 times daily monitoring and feeding back relevant results to the batchers ensuring the correct moisture percentages during batch production.• Maintenance and up keep of all laboratory equipment ensuring up to date and correctly calibrated.• Administration of all laboratory reports and following company procedure related to relevant work projects.• Maintain all below record sheets on a daily, weekly and monthly basis;o QC7B – Cube Crushingo QC36 – Curing Tank Temperatureo QC37 – Temperature profile curing tanko QC38 – Electronic balance checkso QC39 – Daily check on rebound hammero QC40 – Moisture determination for sand and stoneo QC41 – Calibration of in-use cube mouldso QC42 – Internal calibration on minimum and maximum thermometerso QC44 – Concrete samplingo QC64 – Daily laboratory sheeto QC65 – Daily cube making recordo QC67 – Conformity analysis of 28 day cube resultso QC73 – Post pour Schmidt hammer test (collection and filing)o QC77 – Sieve Analysis (Sand and stone)• Analysing trend of concrete mixes with the help of graphs, calculating any standard deviations and liaising all feedback to management and supervisors.• Logging and management on trend of concrete/cube results.• Oversee material testing checking against BS standards and supplier test data check sheets.• Take a lead on supplier confirmation with any potential contamination or impurity related issues.• Manage the material testing regime in line with specific projects as instructed by management.• New product development - Lead, conduct and record any new trial mixtures.• Support management on all auditing.To be successful for this role you must hold specific concrete qualifications within concrete.What’s on offer• Monday to Friday, 08:00am – 17:00pm (30 minute lunch un-paid)• 20 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays (Birthday off)• Nest Pension; 3% client, 5% employee To be suitable for this role, you must have a full driving license and your own vehicle to begin with.
