Core role of the Fire Safety Manager

As the lead in relation to fire safety issues Trust-wide, you will:

  • Maintain fullaccountabilityandresponsibilityforensuringthattheTrustisfullycompliantforall fire; life safety in line with all regulations, acrossahighly complex and multi-site organisation.
  • Lead the NUH Fire Safety team and ensure fullfiresafetycomplianceby delivering fire life safety support and services to all clinical and non-clinical locations.
  • Execute and maintain high-quality processes and systems for the management of fire risk
  • Remain in regular contact with and manage a wide range of internal and external stakeholders andwilloftenneedtoengagewiththemover sensitive, complex, contentious and confidential issues.
  • Ensure that appropriate policies, procedures, systems and arrangements are in place to support fire safety and monitor the implementation and effectiveness of compliance, thereof.

Day to day of the Fire Safety Manager

  • Provide expert fire prevention and response input, maintaining specialist knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance.
  • Ensure compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and other fire safety legislation in NHS premises.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Trust's Fire Safety Policy and strategy.
  • Maintain the Trust's Fire Risk Management System and develop fire safety strategy.
  • Oversee fire risk assessments and ensure practical application across the Trust.
  • Manage corporate fire safety records and develop local fire safety manuals.
  • Ensure up-to-date fire response plans are maintained.
  • Provide fire safety advice and interpretation of legislation for shared premises.
  • Prepare fire safety reports and audits, implementing actions and reporting progress.
  • Support and deliver mandatory fire safety and evacuation training for staff.
  • Provide input on fire safety KPIs and ensure data informs quality and service improvements.
  • Lead liaison with Fire & Rescue Services, co-ordinating enforcement action responses.
  • Investigate fire incidents and oversee remedial action plans.
  • Assist in prioritising fire safety capital investment plans.
  • Liaise with project teams to ensure fire safety compliance in building projects.
  • Co-ordinate fire safety advice at Health and Safety Committee meetings.
  • Organise and advise on practical fire drills and exercises.
  • Record, investigate, and report on fire incidents and unwanted fire signals.
  • Develop and maintain strategies for reducing unwanted fire signals and arson prevention.
  • Manage the Fire Safety Team, ensuring high standards of compliance and safety.
  • Provide technical fire safety advice for projects, reviewing plans and overseeing inspections.
