Job Title: Transport and Plant Manager
Hours: Monday - Friday, 07:00 - 16:00
Daily rate: between 146.15 - 165.38
Current contract length: Initially 3 months with potential to extend depending upon performance and workload

Responsibilities:

  • Operational Improvements & Compliance:
    • Drive operational improvements through audits and inspections.
    • Manage all plant machinery and fleet on contract.
    • Ensure all vehicles and plant are maintained, serviced, and comply with regulatory requirements, including annual inspections and OCRS measurements.
  • Fleet & Plant Management:
    • Oversee vehicle allocation and key management for all fleet and plant machinery under your control.
    • Implement and monitor a Vehicle Husbandry Plan (VHP) in conjunction with local contracts.
    • Lead the tracking of plant machinery, ensuring compliance and adherence to contract terms and regulatory requirements.
  • Training & Compliance:
    • Organise relevant toolbox talks and training.
    • Ensure that all drivers hold a valid, relevant driver's license, and that their cards and qualifications, including Driver CPC, are up-to-date.
    • Ensure all staff working with plant machinery are fully trained and comply with health and safety standards.
  • Fleet & Plant Maintenance:
    • Ensure all vehicular and plant operations are carried out in accordance with UK and EU laws and client policies and procedures.
    • Maintain accurate records for all compliance documentation.
    • Implement robust systems to track and report on maintenance, including the resolution of any defects, inspections and services.
  • Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance:
    • Implement and enforce health, safety, and environmental policies for both fleet and plant machinery.
    • Ensure that all fleet and plant are equipped with required safety equipment and adhere to legislation for safe loading, transportation, and environmental standards.
    • Monitor driver's hours, ensuring compliance with EU and domestic hours regulations through tachograph management.
  • Event & Project Planning:
    • Ensure that statutory events and checks for vehicles and plant machinery are completed on time.
    • Lead plant-related projects to enhance the functionality and compliance of all plant machinery.
    • Develop and monitor clear wall planners for local sites to track key dates for inspections, repairs, and other regulatory checks.
  • Accident Management & Incident Resolution:
    • Assist in the resolution of vehicular accident management incidents, ensuring effective incident reporting and the identification of corrective actions.
    • Provide support for the investigation of traffic offenses and assist in training and behavioural rectification as necessary.
  • Performance Monitoring:
    • Regularly report on the performance and safety of fleet and plant machinery to senior management.
    • Identify risks, issues, and opportunities related to fleet and plant management and escalate where necessary.
    • Assist in setting and monitoring performance and safety targets for fleet and plant operations.
  • Budget & Cost Management:
    • Manage budgets related to fleet and plant, ensuring cost control.
    • Evaluate the financial performance of plant and fleet operations and recommend strategies to improve cost-effectiveness.
  • Brand & Professional Integrity:
    • Uphold and protect the client's brand at all times by ensuring the highest standards.
    • Maintain your professional knowledge, ensuring you are up-to-date with legislative obligations and industry best practices.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Ensure that the plant and fleet machinery under your control complies with all necessary legal certifications, including Operator Licence discs and any other relevant permits.

Person Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Full, clean UK Class 1 driving licence.
  • Membership of complementary professional trade body e.g. IRTE, IMI
  • Must be in possession of a current Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in either one of "National Road Haulage Operations" or "National Passenger Transport Operations".

Skills

  • Strong organisational, administration and numeracy.
  • Ability to think logically and analytically.
  • Understanding of vehicular maintenance/engineering and knowledge of a Body-shop environment.
  • Computer literate.
  • Proficiency in fleet and plant management systems and software.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Experience

  • Significant operational experience in the Logistic or Transportation Industry.
