A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join an important role in the finance team of one of Scotland’s fastest growing companies. A family run business - set up just twelve years ago, it is now the leading independent Vaping business in the UK with over 170 stores nationwide and with ambitious plans to expand rapidly in the next 2-3 years.

The Finance Assistant role is important to the success of the Finance Team. We are looking for candidates with experience in a similar finance role and are particularly interested in candidates who have operated in a similar role in a retail or multi-site environment. Strong Excel skills are essential, and Sage 50 experience is advantageous. This is a multi-tasking role that also calls for someone used to working in a busy, ever-changing environment. Working with pace and the ability to prioritise effectively is paramount, in addition to a personable nature and discretion dealing with sensitive financial information. They must be able to work effectively within a small team of staff, where mutual support is vital to the achievement of the department’s objectives.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, but with daily interaction directly with the Finance Director, the role includes:

  • Responsibility for the completeness of income from a variety of sources including;

o Control and reconciliation of cash receipts from stores collected by G4S, liaising with stores to support cash issues and investigate cash discrepancies.

o Reconciliation of credit card receipts from stores and website, highlighting and investigating discrepancies.

o Reconciliation and control of other income sources such as Klarna and Just Eat

o Act as primary point of contact for the stores for dealing with cash and banking issues

  • Managing the Utilities provision for stores, including relationship with key utilities providers, ensures invoicing is accurate and complete.
  • Proactive review of store utilities consumption and costs, identifying outliers for further investigation and recommendation for savings opportunities.
  • Management of financial aspects of Company Car Fleet, including fuel consumption, & vehicle tax.
  • Assisting the Finance Manager to ensure there is a rigorous month end close process including the preparation/review of month end balance sheet reconciliations and maintenance and update of control accounts.
  • Providing ad hoc analysis as requested by the Finance Director/ Manager.

This role requires a proactive and analytical person with an eye for detail to deal with large volumes of data and identify outliers and discrepancies. We are looking for an ambitious individual, willing to learn quickly to help ensure the smooth running of this fast-paced finance function.

In addition, the successful candidate will:

  • Have prior experience in a similar Finance Assistant role or embarking on accounting qualification
  • Be comfortable with basic accounting principles
  • Have strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Have good communication skills - frequent interaction with the Directors and external stakeholders is involved with the role
  • Have advanced knowledge of Excel (essential)along with Sage 50
