AWS Cloud Team Leader, Core Java Software Engineer, Microservices - Cleantech

Hybrid in Newbury, Berkshire 2 days each week. Highly competitive salary plus discretionary bonus and benefits.


This is a technically hands-on Lead role requiring substantial Java, AWS Cloud, microservice and serverless expertise. The remit is to lead a growing team of cloud engineers and Java developers to spearhead the development of secure & scalable, AWS hosted domestic
energy management products to deliver home decarbonisation.The work is exceptionally technical, the company's product being very close to the hardware.

You will build a high performing team, fostering innovation and ensuring that they leverage the cloud securely & effectively to achieve business objectives. Working closely with other team leads, chief architect, product managers, and business stakeholders to ensure that software products meet the needs of customers.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead, manage and mentor a team of cloud engineers and developers
  • Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, and reliable cloud infrastructure and applications
  • Develop Services & APIs in a Serverless and Server based cloud IoT environment
  • Work in close partnership with product management ensuring delivery of business goals
  • Automate cloud operations and processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Collaborate with other teams (e.g., DevOps) to ensure successful cloud adoption
  • Help the company achieve the goal of adopting test-driven development
  • Proactively identify and address potential cloud risks and challenges
Essential experience to include:
  • Degree in software engineering related subject or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience in design and delivery of AWS based SaaS deployments
  • Extensive Java software development experience, (plus Python, JavaScript, OOD, and functional programming concepts)
  • Large-scale data architectures
  • Microservice and Serverless development
  • Agile software development
  • Ability to coach, develop and mentor a team
Desirable skills:
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Pro)
  • Experience of IoT development, deployment and management
  • Knowledge of the UK energy sector
