Software Project Manager - Newby Bridge, Lake District - 60,000 - 70,000

KO2's client, a leading company that designs and develops extrusion systems for use in rugged environments, is seeking a Software Project Manager to manage software processes and the work that software engineers typically do not enjoy-task tracking, testing, documentation, release management, and security audits. This is a hands-on, process-oriented role where you will work closely with a team of engineers to ensure smooth and effective project delivery, while also overseeing testing, releases, and documentation.

Based in Newby Bridge in the stunning Lake District, this role offers a competitive salary of 60,000 - 70,000, and the opportunity to manage projects that play a key role in the design of cutting-edge systems.

As a Software Project Manager, you will be the driving force behind project delivery, ensuring that tasks are tracked, test reports are generated, releases are properly documented, and software is thoroughly tested for security and compliance. This is not a traditional people management role but a focus on managing the processes and tasks that ensure the software is delivered on time, with all necessary documentation and testing in place.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Oversee software development projects from start to finish, ensuring timely delivery of software that meets business goals and customer needs.
  • Tracking & Allocating Tasks: Manage task allocation, monitor progress, and ensure all software engineering activities are documented and on track.
  • Testing & Quality Assurance: Ensure all software is thoroughly tested (military testing, security audits) and that proper release notes and documentation are prepared.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders and developers to define project requirements, deliverables, and timescales.
  • Release Management: Oversee the entire software release process, ensuring regular, scheduled releases with proper quality control.
  • Documentation: Ensure that all software projects, including applications, SDKs, and firmware, are well-documented with change notes, configuration settings, and user manuals.
  • Security Oversight: Conduct software security audits and ensure that all software meets security best practices.
  • Continuous Improvement: Promote and implement continuous improvements in bug reporting, task tracking, and software feature development.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of C/C++ and Qt application development.
  • Experience with software testing, release management, and security audits.
  • Familiarity with software architecture design and version control (e.g., Git).
  • Understanding of extrusion systems and rugged environments is a bonus.
  • Strong documentation skills and an eye for detail, especially in release notes, configuration management, and user manuals.

This role is ideal for someone with an eye for detail, an understanding of the full software lifecycle, and a passion for ensuring that software is delivered efficiently, securely, and on time. You may even have the opportunity to get involved in some C/C++ QT application layer programming if you wish to expand your technical skills.
