Astute's Renewables Team is partnering with a leading manufacturer of cutting-edge inverter technology, renowned for their strong presence in the UK solar market. We are seeking a Field Service Engineer to support large-scale solar assets across the Northeast of England, with occasional travel further afield as required. This role offers the opportunity to work with large scale assets, providing expert service and maintenance for industry-leading solar technology.
The Field Service Engineer role comes with a salary up to 45,000, company van, bonus and door-to-door overtime.

Responsibilities and duties of the Field Service Engineer role

Reporting to the Service Team Leader you will:

  • Provide top-quality field service for commercial and utility-scale solar projects across the UK.
  • Service, repair, maintain, and inspect a wide range of solar equipment and systems.
  • Commission, inspect, and repair PV systems installed by leading EPCs.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with string and central inverters, as well as other technologies.
  • Collaborate with industry-leading solar companies in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Communicate with senior service managers to ensure the highest standards of service and quality.
  • Handle incoming customer queries, troubleshooting error messages, and providing technical support.
  • Manage service logistics, including spare parts and inverter component replacements.
  • Record and document service activities in SAP CRM.
  • Maintain the highest safety standards both on-site and in the workplace.


Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • A higher education with an electrical bias, ie degree / HNC / HND and 18th edition certification.
  • 3 years' experience servicing and maintaining inverter or power electronic systems.
  • Previous commercial/ large scale Solar PV maintenance experience is essential.
  • UK Driving license and flexibility to travel as required.
  • Ideally, very good knowledge of high voltage and measurement equipment as well as occupational health and safety regulations


Personal skills

The Field Service Engineer role would suit someone who is:

  • Willing and flexible to travel with some overnight stays and attend training in Europe when required
  • Has very good English language skills; second language skills would be an asset
