Database Administrator (MySQL & PostgreSQL)

  • Location: Newcastle upon Tyne, UK
  • Job Type: Hybrid (2 days in-office)
  • Salary: Competitive with performance-based bonuses

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Design, implement, and maintain MySQL and PostgreSQL databases to ensure high performance, availability, and security.
  • Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions as required.
  • Ensure data integrity and security through robust backup and recovery solutions.
  • Optimise database performance using indexing, query optimisation, and other techniques.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design and optimise database schemas and queries.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, providing essential technical support.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive database documentation, including data models, schemas, and procedures.
  • Implement and manage database security measures to protect sensitive data.
  • Conduct regular database maintenance tasks, such as updates, patches, and backups.
  • Stay informed about the latest database technologies and best practices to continually enhance system efficiency.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator, with a strong focus on MySQL and PostgreSQL.
  • In-depth knowledge of database design, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Skilled in database performance tuning and optimisation.
  • Familiarity with database security practices and data protection regulations.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with database scripting and automation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
