Due to business growth, we are looking to recruit for a Mechanical Design Engineer for a leading manufacturing engineering company based in Newcastle.

The main purpose of the role is to provide design and development support to the Mechanical part of the business under instruction of more senior members of the team. You will be involved on full life cycle projects from client requirement through design, build, test, install and customer acceptance.

The ideal candidate will be degree qualified to Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering with a demonstrable background in a similar role. Ideally candidates will be experienced using AutoCAD - Autodesk Inventor is advantageous

Candidates must have strong experience in a design role preferably of low volume high machine. Candidates must have an understanding of geometric tolerances, limits and fits, weld symbols and surface finish.

Experience of machine control systems/automation is an advantage but you will receive alot of on the job training to learn about all the required systems.

Hours - Monday - Thurs 0830 - 1700/ Friday 0830 - 12

Hybrid working available - 3 days in the office as a minimum

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce conceptual designs from process definitions.
  • Layout design of mechanical/hydraulic machinery.
  • Stress and other calculations to support designs.
  • To work in multi-discipline project teams on specific aspects of the machine design.
  • Whilst being a specialist in one of the following you will also have a good working knowledge of at least one of the other engineering disciplines: Mechanical, structural, hydraulic, maritime, materials.
  • To be involved in the build, commissioning, test and trials of new build machines. This can involve working abroad/offshore.
  • Working with control and software engineers to ensure correct interfacing between different aspects of machines.
  • Assistance with customer proposals and other sales activities
  • Assistance to customer support team

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related/equivalent subject.
  • Demonstrable background in Mechanical Design Engineering
  • Understanding of geometric tolerances, limits and fits, weld symbols and surface finish.
  • Experienced in use of AutoCAD - Autodesk Inventor is advantageous
  • Clear technical writing and good record keeping.
