The Opportunity
Our client is one of the largest Engineering Consultancies in the UK, with a growing team of nuclear specialists, they are currently searching for an experienced EC&I Engineer to join the Nuclear Power and Engineering Technical Services division of their company.

You will be working on a range of different projects, spanning from plant life extension work, to the latest in nuclear technology and new builds. Our client’s work is at the forefront of keeping the UK amongst the best and most technologically advanced nuclear countries in the world.

You will be an integral part of these complex projects, coordinating and assisting junior engineers in their work, alongside completing your own. Using your strong communication skills, you will liaise with various teams across the business, as well as client representatives, ensuring that the project work meets or exceeds expectations.

PLEASE NOTE – Due to the nature of our client’s work, we are unable to consider candidates from outside of the UK. Any applicant must be able to secure SC Security Clearance at a minimum.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

  • Lead projects across the project lifecycle from bid generation, through concept and detailed design development to installation and commissioning
  • Work on systems integration, testing and validation of PLC, SCADA and simulator systems
  • Support requirements capture and systems engineering approach for new architectures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the practical aspects of implementing engineering. designs and understand the use of standards and compliance with regulatory. requirements in an engineering environment.
  • Simplify complex problems.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports.
  • Build and maintain valuable relationships.

You will have the following qualifications & experience

  • MEng, MSc, BEng or BSc or equivalent in EC&I or another relevant discipline,
  • Chartered or near Chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional body
  • An awareness of civil nuclear plant systems, structures and components and associated design and assessment guidelines (or relevant engineering principles from other highly regulated industries)
  • An understanding of the relevant guidelines, standards and practices (e.g., IEC 61508, 61511, 61513, 61226, ONR SAPs / TAGS).

It’s great if you also have the following

  • Knowledge and experience in the systematic design lifecycle of a C&I system; including specification, design, assessment, verification, testing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of safety or process critical I&C Systems
  • Knowledge of high integrity hardware or software-based control systems for industrial equipment.
  • Good communication skills and ability to articulate information to a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Committed to Continuous Professional Development.

The setting for the role
Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licenced site. These can include, nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals and gasses, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
