Your new companyOur client is an environmental consultancy who works with a range of national clients (including major retailers, housebuilders, utilities providers and major charities) to enhance nature and biodiversity.They are seeking a motivated, talented, professional ecologist to join their consultancy team, offering creative solutions that benefit both business and nature. You would be joining a 22-person team made up of experienced environmental experts and support staff who are committed to exemplary and sustainable placemaking that benefits communities, people and nature. Your new roleYour main responsibilities in your new role would include:

  • Produce fee proposals for a range of services, sector and client project types
  • Undertake desktop study, preliminary ecological assessments, protected species, botanical and habitat surveys, shadow Habitat Regulation Assessments (HRA) and Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) including analysis, interpretation and application to projects
  • Production and co-ordination of Ecology Ornithology chapters alongside Technical Appendices for Environmental Statements within Environmental Impact Assessment processes.
  • Ecological Clerk of Works for complex construction scheme
  • Nutrient Neutrality & Biodiversity Net Gain Assessments (including application of biodiversity metric) for onsite and offsite schemes as well as strategic assessments
  • Report, production and technical review (including map production)
  • Protected Species Licence Applications and implementation (including appropriate mitigation and compensation schemes)
  • Efficient and professional client relationship management
  • Project management (including budgetary & resource planning of your projects)
  • Train, mentor, and support colleagues through a clear and structured programme
  • Line management of a team
  • Co-ordination of collaborators and sub-contractors
  • Ecology service design, input and continuous improvement
  • Promotion of services and company via digital media, including website and social media
  • Adherence to company Health and Safety policies, practices, processes and procedures

What you'll need to succeed

  • Min. of BSc degree in Ecology or closely related subject
  • FISC Level 4 desirable
  • Min. of 1 Protected Species Licence at Class 2 level or progressing towards
  • CIEEM membership (min Associate.)
  • Min. four years working in an ecology consultancy
  • Strong botanical survey skills (UK Habs & NVC)
  • Report writing and technical review
  • Extensive Preliminary Ecological Appraisals alongside protected species surveys (GCN, bat, mammals & barn owl etc.)
  • Habitat Regulation Assessment screening, complex Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) & Ecology
  • Chapter production for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)
  • Project management skills (including financial management and resource planning)
  • Track record of delivering training and mentoring schemes for colleagues
  • Detailed understanding and application of Ecological Impact Assessment in complex residential, renewable and infrastructure schemes, including National Infrastructure Projects
  • Detailed understanding of designated sites, citations and assessment of development impacts
  • Understanding of Habitat Regulations Assessment process
  • Extensive knowledge of the Development Planning Regime including National Planning Policy Framework & Schedule of 7a Town and Country Planning Act
  • Detailed knowledge and application of current & incoming environmental, wildlife and habitats legislation
  • Basic knowledge of the principles of Environmental Net Gain & Natural Capital Assessment desirable
