  • Role : Protection Engineer/Senior Engineer
  • Duration : Initially 6 months then rolling contract with possible Temp to Perm position if interested
  • Rate 500 per day- Outside IR35
  • Location : Must be UK Based . Offices Newcastle Upon Tyne /Aberdeen/Manchester Leeds

Job Description

Their growing Transmission business is looking for an experienced Protection Engineer or Senior Engineer to join our business in Newcastle upon Tyne or Aberdeen with also offices in Manchester and Leeds so commutable to either of these with a Hybrid working model. In this role you will be responsible for providing protection designs, solutions and technical input to contracts in all areas within the employee's business area and delivering departmental work packages on time and to budget. The role you will be working designing Circuits for Panels within the Transmission industry for Substations.

Key Skills

  • Experience within the UK Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry.
  • Conversant with the latest UK Transmission and Distribution standards & technologies.
  • Knowledge of protection scheme application.
  • Knowledge of primary plant.
  • You will have been based in the UK working for a Contractor / Transmission Network Operator responsible for Delivery of Technical Protection and Control Solutions for UK Transmission Substations, for a period of at least 5 years.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Responsible to produce protection and control schematics for 13.9kV up to 400kV associated with UK Substations.
  • Responsible to produce protection and control designs for LVAC, LVDC and UPS equipment associated with UK Substations.
  • Responsible for the production C.T./V.T. and cable sizing calculations.
  • Responsible for the production relay configurations and associated documentation.
  • Production of Engineering and Test Specifications for new and existing solutions.
  • Attend internal and external design reviews for technical input.
  • Responsible to produce protection Compliance Matrices, Design Intent Documents, Equipment Technical Specifications and Functional Design Specifications.
  • Responsible for the input in the production of design risk assessments for all design solutions. Ensure as part of the process all design risks and HAZIDS are identified, controlled, and ensuring full compliance with current Health and Safety legislation.
  • Ensures quality and consistency by carrying out functional testing during the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) phase with the client.
  • Assists in mentoring new members of the engineering department.
  • Maintaining consistency of design on each contract by adherence to processes and procedures.
  • Attends Technical meetings with the client as and when required.
  • Works collaboratively with all engineering departments and project managers within Siemens ET.
  • To actively input to T2W and Top+ business improvement programme within the Engineering Department.
  • Commitment to Siemens Think Customer initiative including excellent call handling and voice mail skills.
  • Continuous reviewing of engineering processes and procedures to improve and recommend changes.
