GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Graduate Teaching Assistant to support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a dynamic school environment in Newcastle. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a supportive setting and make a real difference in the lives of young learners.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with teachers and school staff to support the educational, social, and emotional development of students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in planning and delivering tailored interventions and classroom activities.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment for students.
  • Support students in both group settings and on a one-to-one basis as needed.
  • Assist with monitoring and reporting on student progress and behaviour.
  • Contribute to maintaining classroom discipline and addressing behavioural challenges constructively.
  • Encourage student engagement and participation through creative and supportive approaches.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably with SEMH needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive and flexible attitude with the ability to adapt to different situations.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • A genuine passion for supporting the growth and development of students.
  • An enhanced DBS check on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
