Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
If so, GSL Education are looking for a committed SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary) to join a primary school in Newcastle. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a daily supply or long-term contract basis, earning £87 - £108 per day.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support primary-aged students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them engage with learning and develop essential skills in a nurturing environment.

Responsibilities of the SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary):

  • Provide one-on-one and group support for students with SEMH needs.
  • Implement tailored strategies to promote emotional well-being and positive behaviour.
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering lessons and managing the classroom environment.
  • Support students during transitions and unstructured times, such as breaks and lunchtimes.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals to track student progress and set goals.
  • Create a safe and supportive atmosphere where students can thrive.

Requirements of the SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary):

  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs or behavioural challenges (preferred).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to working with vulnerable students.
  • Understanding of de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour management strategies.
  • Flexibility to adapt to different roles and school settings.

To work with GSL Education as a SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary), you will need:

  • Have the right to work in the UK
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education.
