Are you passionate about assisting the educational and emotional development of students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? If so, GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to support secondary students in Newcastle.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will be instrumental in supporting teachers and helping students excel in their studies. This position offers the opportunity to make a difference in the educational experiences of students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Key Responsibilities of the SEMH Teaching Assistant:Â
- Provide targeted support to students with SEMH needs, both in groups and individually.
- Assist teachers in delivering tailored lessons and managing classroom activities.
- Help develop and implement individualised strategies to support students' well-being and learning.
- Promote a positive, nurturing environment that encourages student engagement and resilience.
- Collaborate with school staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure cohesive support for students.
- Monitor and document student progress, providing feedback to teachers and support staff.
The successful candidate will:
- Be qualified in relevant qualifications like education, psychology, or a related field.
- Possess previous experience working alongside students with SEMH.
- Have good organisational abilities, strong communication and classroom management skills, and the capacity to run a classroom efficiently.
- Have an understanding and compassionate approach to helping the students.
- Have flexibility and adaptability to cover various subjects.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered with the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
