Manufacturing Engineer required to join an expanding Manufacturing / Engineering organisation.

As Manufacturing Engineer you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes to optimize efficiency, quality, and cost in the production of metal components. This role will involve working closely with design, production, and quality teams to ensure that manufacturing processes are streamlined and aligned with business objectives.

It is essential that applicants can demonstrate the following:

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software. AutoCAD / Inventor preferred or Solidworks.
  • Strong knowledge of metals and materials used in fabrication (e.g., steel, aluminium, etc.), production processes, and industry standards.
  • Time served within metal Fabrication & Welding within medium to heavy engineering environment.
  • Good understanding of Tooling & Equipment design.

Key Responsibilities:

Process Development & Optimization: Design, develop, and improve manufacturing processes for metal fabrication, including cutting, welding, machining, forming, and assembly operations. Ensure processes are efficient, safe, and cost-effective.

Production Support: Provide hands-on technical support to production teams to troubleshoot issues, improve workflows, and resolve bottlenecks in the fabrication process. Assist in equipment setup, process adjustments, and machine calibration.

Tooling & Equipment Design: Collaborate with engineering and production teams to design and select appropriate tools, jigs, fixtures, and machinery required for metal fabrication processes. Ensure that equipment is well-maintained and aligned with safety standards.

Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, product quality enhancements, and cost reduction in metal fabrication operations. Lead cross-functional teams to implement solutions and track progress.

Quality Control: Work with the quality assurance team to ensure that metal fabrication processes meet all quality standards and product specifications. Support the implementation of quality control systems to prevent defects and ensure consistency.

New Product Introduction (NPI): Assist in the transition of new products from the design phase to full-scale manufacturing. Collaborate with design and R&D teams to ensure manufacturability of metal components and optimize designs for production efficiency.

Documentation & Standards: Develop and maintain process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions for all fabrication processes. Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.

Cost Analysis: Conduct time studies, process simulations, and cost analyses to identify the most efficient production methods. Monitor and report on production metrics, including throughput, downtime, and scrap rates.

Lean Manufacturing: Lead initiatives to implement lean manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma) to minimize waste, reduce costs, and improve production speed and efficiency.
