Talent84 is delighted to be representing our client, a highly successful engineering organisation specialising in large-scale, complex electromechanical products with a global customer base, in their search for a Senior R&D Design Engineer.

About the Role

The R&D function is a multi-disciplined team that sits within the wider Engineering function. The teams primary responsibility is to track the latest technology and engineering advancements and create novel solutions to previously unsolved complex problems faced by their customers. The R&D function is involved in concept design, innovative product development and the support of delivery of the complete manufacturing and technical data packs.

Due to continued growth and contract wins, my client is seeking to add to their existing superb R&D division in the appointment of a Mechanical Design Engineer. Reporting to the NPD Manager, the Senior R&D Design Engineer will be tasked with leveraging their technical expertise and experience to contribute to the development of products, technology, capability, and reliability across their full product range.

Main Responsibilities
  • Working within a multi-discipline engineering team to meet the project requirements.
  • Developing designs from concepts through to manufacturing detail, including manufacturing/assembly drawings, specifications of proprietary components, supporting calculations and reports.
  • Maintaining a knowledge of current technical trends and innovation to assist in the development of current and future products.
  • Hosting and participating in design reviews providing technical input throughput the development process.
  • Supporting verification of fellow engineers designs.
  • Developing the testing requirements for both prototype and product manufacture.
  • Supporting build, commissioning, and trials of new products.
  • Analysing problems and coming up with ideas/designs to solve them.
  • Working within the budget to deliver safe, effective products, on-time and to specification.
  • Supporting delivery of customer training.
  • Working cross functionally (Commercial, Sales, Projects teams) within the business to improve efficiency and deliver effective products.
  • Coaching team members to improve capabilities and develop their engineering knowledge/expertise.
  • Communicating professionally with fellow staff, directors, and clients.
About you

To be considered for the role, it is essential that you possess demonstrable experience gained as a Senior Design Engineer design engineering within a NPD/R&D function or a focus towards NPD in a regular design setting. You will also be degree qualified (2:1 and above), with Chartership status (will consider candidates wishing to gain Chartership/ currently in the Chartership process)

Key selection criteria
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and control systems with significant experience working in a multi-disciplined engineering team.
  • You must be currently based in the UK with a valid UK passport (or ILTR)
  • Experience of working on new product development is desirable.
  • Proven experience leading a design team is advantageous.
  • Proven record of delivering technically challenging projects.
  • Able to think laterally when problem solving.
  • Ability to investigate and interpret data, issues, and situations, to make sound decisions in high-stress situations.
  • Expert user in modern engineering design tools (2D + 3D CAD, Analysis, etc)
  • Acts with honesty/integrity to build trust, respect, and commitment in the workplace.
  • Self-motivating, proactive and results driven approach.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal awareness and understands and takes into account the thoughts, feelings, and emotions of others.
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work to deadlines whilst maintaining high quality.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS office applications including Excel and Word.
