We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and flexible tutor to provide tailored academic support to Year 10 students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Key Details:
  • Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
  • Hours: 15 hours per week
  • Session Structure:
    • One-to-one (1:1), two-to-one (2:1), or three-to-one (3:1) group sessions.
    • Group sessions will be 3 hours per day, Monday to Friday.
    • Flexible scheduling to accommodate both tutor and student needs.
  • Subjects: Maths and English (Key Stage 4)
  • Start Date: As soon as possible

Responsibilities:
  • Personalised Learning Support:
    • Deliver engaging and effective Maths and English tuition tailored to the individual needs of Year 10 students working towards Key Stage 4 objectives.
    • Identify gaps in knowledge and implement targeted interventions to address them.
  • SEMH-Focused Strategies:
    • Use approaches that support students with SEMH challenges, fostering confidence, resilience, and motivation to learn.
    • Build strong rapport and trust to create a positive, safe learning environment.
  • Group Dynamics:
    • Adapt teaching methods to suit varying group sizes (1:1, 2:1, or 3:1) while ensuring individual attention for each learner.
    • Facilitate peer interaction in small group settings to encourage collaboration and social skills development.
  • Progress Monitoring:
    • Regularly assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to encourage growth and improvement.
    • Maintain detailed records of session activities, student performance, and areas for further development.
  • Flexibility:
    • Adjust lesson plans and teaching methods to meet the evolving needs of students.
    • Adapt to flexible scheduling to accommodate studentsā€™ availability and any unforeseen changes.
Essential Requirements:
  • Subject Expertise:
    • Proven experience teaching Maths and English at Key Stage 4 level.
    • Strong subject knowledge and ability to simplify complex concepts for students who may be working below age-related expectations.
  • Understanding of SEMH Needs:
    • Demonstrated experience working with students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health challenges.
    • Familiarity with strategies to support engagement, reduce anxiety, and manage behaviour effectively.
  • Interpersonal Skills:
    • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills to establish trust and maintain positive connections with students.
    • Patience, empathy, and adaptability to meet the individual needs of each learner.
  • Organisation and Commitment:
    • Well-organised and committed to providing consistent, high-quality support.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as needed.
Desired Skills:
  • Experience working in an alternative provision or similar educational setting.
  • Knowledge of effective assessment tools to track and report progress.
  • Creativity in delivering lessons that are both engaging and relevant to the learnersā€™ interests and aspirations.
