About the Role:Our client is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Estimator to join the team and contribute to the successful delivery of our commercial projects in the North East. You will be responsible for providing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a strong pipeline of projects throughout 2025, playing a vital role in securing new work and driving the company's growth.Responsibilities:

  • Cost Estimating:

* Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for commercial construction projects, ensuring accuracy, detail, and adherence to deadlines.* Analyse tender documents, drawings, specifications, and other project information to develop cost breakdowns.* Identify and evaluate potential risks and cost implications, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.* Utilise various estimating techniques, including parametric, detailed, and bottom-up methods.* Prepare cost analyses and risk assessments, presenting findings clearly and concisely to project teams and senior management.

  • Tender Preparation:

* Collaborate with the business development team to identify and pursue new project opportunities.* Coordinate with the estimating team to develop and submit competitive tenders within tight deadlines.* Ensure that all tender documents are accurate, complete, and meet the client's requirements.* Participate in pre-tender meetings and site visits to gain a thorough understanding of projects.

  • Value Engineering:

* Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and value engineering solutions during the estimating process.* Propose alternative materials, designs, or construction methods to optimize project costs.* Collaborate with the design team to explore cost-effective solutions.

  • Team Leadership:

* Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to junior estimators, fostering a high-performing estimating team.* Develop and implement best practices for estimating within the company.

  • Continuous Improvement:

* Stay on top of industry trends, pricing data, and best practices in estimating.* Contribute to the development and improvement of the company's estimating processes.Key Requirements:

  • Proven track record as a Senior Estimator within the construction industry, ideally for a Main Contractor.
  • Strong understanding of construction costs, pricing methodologies, and industry standards.
  • Experience working with various construction contracts, including JCT and NEC forms.
  • Proficiency in using estimating software and other relevant tools.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to make sound commercial judgments.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of estimators, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
