Role Overview:
As a Secondary Teaching Assistant (TA), you will play a crucial role in supporting students across various subjects, assisting teachers in delivering engaging lessons and providing targeted intervention where required. You will work with students of varying abilities, offering academic guidance, emotional support and classroom management assistance to ensure a positive and productive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities of the Secondary Teaching Assistant (TA):
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons across a range of subjects.
- Provide one-to-one and small group support, tailoring learning strategies to individual student needs.
- Help manage classroom behaviour, ensuring a structured and focused learning environment.
- Support students with SEN, SEMH, or additional learning needs, helping them access the curriculum effectively.
- Contribute to student development by fostering confidence, motivation and a positive attitude towards learning.
- Assist with the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
- Liaise with teachers, SENCOs and support staff to implement individual learning plans.
- Uphold school policies on behaviour, safeguarding and student wellbeing at all times.
Requirements of Secondary Teaching Assistant (TA):
- A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
- Experience working within a secondary school environment is advantageous.
- A strong understanding of student learning needs, including SEN and behavioural support strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students and staff.
- Patience, adaptability and enthusiasm for working in an educational setting.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
