About the Role:

Reed Education seek a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant primary school in Gateshead - this role is to start ASAP and will see the right candidate. This long-term assignment is perfect for someone with good knowledge of EYFS / Nursery, and strong experience of working with children that are learning below their age related standard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing 1:1 support for children with additional needs in Early Years and Ks1
  • Assist in the implementation of EHCPs
  • Support the class teacher in creating an inclusive learning environment
  • Providing support to pre-verbal and non-verbal students - using visual supports, encouraging play, promoting non-verbal cues (knowledge of Makaton would be excellent)
  • Foster a positive and encouraging atmosphere for all students
  • Working to build excellent relationships with parents and carers

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach
  • Knowledge of the EYFS; knowledge of EHCPs
  • Experience with personal care is desirable but not imperative
