Reed Education are recruiting for a Specialist Teaching Assistant to work in a long-term assignment at a partner school in central Newcastle Upon Tyne. We work extensively with Primary Schools across the region to support their ongoing need for staff to work with pupils with additional needs/SEND, and we are delighted to bring forward this opportunity for a SEND Teaching Assistant to work with a number of students, aged between 4 and 11, with Autism (ASD).
This role is to start from January 2025 (or sooner if availability permits) and will run on a long-term basis, with Reed Education acting as the employment agency.
The specific details are:
- Full-Time, Monday to Friday (8.30am to 3.30pm)
- January 2025 to July 2025
- Temporary (with a permanent contract a possibility down the line)
- Pay rates start at £88, and are negotiable

Out client is a vibrant and successful Primary School, with a diverse catchment and a greater-than-average proportion of students with additional needs. This role will see you work collaboratively with both classroom teachers, but also with the SENCo and wider SEN team in school.
Despite the role being initially on a long-term supply basis, our client will truly make you part of their team. You'll be invited to undertake any staff training available, you'll be given the opportunity to access specific training that will support you in your role, and crucially, Reed and the client will ensure you receive any applicable AWR salary uplift after 12 weeks worked.
The duties associated with this role are:
- Providing both 1:1 and group-based interventions for students with additional needs, predominantly Autism
- Using your skills to provide individualised support that meets student's needs - ie. Sensory interventions, early language development
- Provide academic support to children with MLD/SLD
- Working alongside EHCPs to deliver meaningful interventions in line with specific needs
- Use/knowledge of PECs and Makaton are advantageous
- Team Teach/MAPA are desirable qualifications
