The Role

The Council are seeking an experienced time served Heavy Goods Vehicle technician to take up a permanent position.City Transport maintains and repairs a diverse range of vehicles, plant and horticultural equipment as well as having two MOT stations, testing class 4,5 & 7 vehicles, licenced taxis and hackney carriages.You will join the team, primarily in their Heavy workshop at Newington Rd.They are looking for someone with the skills and experience to achieve the effective and efficient maintenance, diagnostics and repair of the council’s plant, horticultural equipment & Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) fleet, including an understanding of VOSA standards enabling them to prepare & present LGV’s for MOT.You will have served a recognised apprenticeship in motor vehicle engineering to NVQ level 3 or equivalent. A category B driving licence is essential. Categories C LGV licence or hold a valid MOT tester qualification being advantageous.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Sound knowledge of prescribed standards of roadworthiness for commercial vehicles, ability to prepare and present LGV’s for DVSA inspection.
  • Have broad-based experience in the repair and maintenance of vehicles
  • They will have served a recognised apprenticeship in motor vehicle engineering & Qualified to CG 371 or 373/NVQ3 Craft Certificate or equivalent
  • Can demonstrate sound knowledge of motor vehicle examination techniques
