GSL Education are seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Newham. This full-time, long-term role starts on 6th January 2025 and offers an exciting opportunity to grow within a supportive school community.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with children on the Autism spectrum in both one-to-one or small group settings, supporting their learning and development in a nurturing and inclusive setting.

Responsibilities of SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide targeted support to students with Autism within the school's SEN provision.
  • Assist in implementing tailored Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs).
  • Foster an inclusive and encouraging learning environment for all students.
  • Work collaboratively with the SENCO and other staff members to support students' needs.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small-group support to address academic and social challenges.
  • Adapt learning resources and teaching techniques to meet individual student requirements.
  • Promote positive behaviours and emotional well-being in alignment with the school's ethos.
  • Assist with transitions, mobility, or personal care if required.
  • Contribute to planning and preparing differentiated classroom activities.
  • Support students' development in key areas, including communication, social skills, and independence.
  • Build trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement in learning.
  • Provide regular feedback to class teachers, SENCOs, and parents about student progress.

SEN TA Requirements:

  • Experience working with children, preferably in a Special Educational Needs (SEN) setting as a SEN Teaching Assistant.
  • CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance, or similar qualifications are preferred.
  • A degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field is desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) strategies and interventions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting children with additional needs.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
