Salary: £90-£100 Day RateLocation: LewesJob Type: Long-TermWorking Hours: 08:30-16:00We are currently working with a special school in East Sussex in the search for a dedicated teaching assistant. The school supports children with trauma which as you can imagine is a challenging service, however, they are well facilitated to support these students. Lessons run in small groups or 1 to 1, to support with the emotional and behavioural difficulties. This is a great time to join the school as they have recently received a good Ofsted status.

The trust's schools are unique and distinctive environments that are highly effective in supporting children with complex behaviours and needs. Pupils have experienced trauma and adverse childhood experiences. The schools work with secondary school aged pupils to develop self-belief and support them in learning how to be effective learners.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Support the Class Teacher in delivering a tailored curriculum that meets the individual needs of pupils.
  • Assist in creating a safe, stimulating learning environment that encourages pupils’ emotional, academic, vocational, and physical development.
  • Engage with pupils to build resilience and promote independence.
  • Participate in the school’s continuous drive for success and celebration of achievements.
  • Liaise with specialist agencies and contribute to the school’s collaborative efforts with external partners. 
  • Assisting with Individual Education Plans.
  • Providing feedback to pupils on progress and achievement under teacher guidance.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant, preferably within an SEN setting.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by pupils with SEMH and associated needs.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
