Job Summary
We are seeking an Assistant Cost Consultant to join our dynamic client. in Newmarket. They are a leading Consultancy within the healthcare and commercial sector. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing all costs related to building projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that projects are completed within budget and to the required quality standards. This position requires a keen eye for detail and strong analytical skills, particularly in cost control.

Duties

  • Prepare and maintain accurate cost estimates for projects, ensuring all financial aspects are accounted for including cost planning.
  • Monitor project budgets and expenditure, implementing cost control measures as necessary.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to inform project planning.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure financial efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare tender documents, contracts, budgets, and bills of quantities.
  • Evaluate tenders and negotiate contracts with suppliers and main -contractors.
  • Provide advice on contractual claims and disputes.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all financial transactions related to projects.
  • Agreement of final accounts with principal contractor

Experience

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field is essential.
  • Proven experience in quantity surveying or cost management within the construction industry is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and materials.
  • Excellent numerical skills with a strong focus on cost control.
  • Proficient in using quantity surveying software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • A professional qualification from a recognised institution (e.g., RICS) would be advantageous but not essential.
