My client is a Top 20 firm of Chartered Accountants; their Newport office is looking for a manager to join its growing Business Services team.

The Business Services Assistant Manager will be a crucial member of the business services department. They will be responsible for servicing clients, assisting to direct accountancy services delivered, and managing our people. They will also be responsible for supporting the wider team on larger jobs as well as managing their own portfolios.

Business Services is split into two divisions:

1. Outsourcing which includes bookkeeping, management accounts and VAT services 2. Limited Company Services which is mainly preparation of Limited Company Financial Statements (this is the main area for this role)

Typical daily duties:

• Maintain and develop technical ability by attending webinars, keeping abreast of technical development and being able to present own research on technically challenging aspects; • Being the point of reference for the business services team in terms of technical queries; • Reviewing accounts/management accounts files completed by the team and providing points of constructive feedback ; • Guiding the team to perform work efficiently and diligently • Work closely with the Partner in the planning and conduct of assignments. • Suggesting fees to partners • Lead, manage, develop and coach an effective team; • Manage client relationships and be an ambassador for the firm; • Keep the partner informed of any issues that arise with the client; • Identify opportunities; think strategically by understanding the client’s needs, their business and key risks; • People management responsibilities covering resource planning and allocation, performance management, training and recommendations for promotion; • Review and assess WIP regularly and address overruns as they occur; • Raise bills regularly and prompt the partner for interim billing when appropriate;

Working arrangements:

• The working week: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday); standard office hours are 8.30AM to 4.30PM with flexibility of hours to meet specific needs. • Location: Your work base is at the Newport Office. However, you may be required to spend time working at client premises.
