A nationwide leading timber merchant seeks a Transport Coordinator to join their branch in Newport. The successful candidate will oversee logistics and transportation operations.

Salary and Hours

  • Monday - Friday 07:30 - 16:30
  • £30k - £32k

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring all vehicles are maintained to legal requirements.
  • Monitoring the use of vehicles using telematics and GPS systems to improve efficiency and reduce costs. 
  • Ensuring the fleet complies with all relevant laws and regulations, including vehicle safety, driver hours, and environmental standards. 
  • Managing licenses, permits, and certifications for vehicles and drivers.
  • Implementing safety protocols and ensuring that the transport operations adhere to health and safety regulations. 
  • Optimising routes for efficiency, cost, and timely delivery. 
  • Coordinating vehicle and driver schedules.
  • Coordinating with the yard to prioritise orders, ensuring timely picking for delivery.
  • Driver management, recruiting, training, and supervising drivers, including managing their schedules and performance. 
  • Maintaining good relationships with clients.
  • Addressing any transport-related issues that arise, including delays, accidents, or customer complaints. 

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Transport Coordinator or in a similar role. 
  • Strong knowledge of transport regulations and legal requirements. 
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in fleet management and route planning. 
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team. 
  • Proficiency in transport management software and Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Computer literate with the ability to navigate our systems, emails, and Microsoft Office Suite.
