Summary

As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.

You should be willing to work some weekends, bank holidays and evenings, and be on call.

What it's like to work here The National Trust on Dartmoor cares for moorland, peatland, woodlands, wood pasture,  temperate rainforests, heathlands and species rich meadows to name a few. Parke welcomes between 250,000  and 300,000 visitors per year, many of whom come every day from neighbouring Bovey Tracy to walk their dogs or just to relax in nature.

The successful candidate will lead, develop and expand a team of volunteers onsite, working with them to make Parke better for nature and people.

The Parke ranger is a part of the Dartmoor ranger team, and so might be called upon to work anywhere on Dartmoor to support others in the team. You will be reporting to the Lead Ranger for East Dartmoor.

What you'll be doing

You’ll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.

You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.
