Role Summary:We are seeking a dedicated Housing Officer/Senior Housing Officer to join our clients Private Sector Housing team. This role focuses on enforcing, maintaining, and enhancing standards in private sector housing. Key responsibilities include housing enforcement, financial assistance administration, empty homes management, and landlord liaison, ensuring quality housing for Teignbridge residents. This is a career-grade position offering opportunities for growth and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct property inspections and Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) assessments.
  • Advise tenants, landlords, and agencies on housing standards and legislative compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Housing Options team to support vulnerable clients and combat harassment and unlawful eviction.
  • Process grants and loans for housing improvements and adaptations.
  • Address long-term empty properties by engaging with owners and implementing enforcement actions.
  • Liaise with contractors, health professionals, and other stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualification or equivalent experience in housing or a related field (such as Environmental Health).
  • HHSRS competency certification or commitment to obtain it.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with experience in customer service and negotiation.
  • Valid driving license and DBS check required.
