Our Client is a is a leading Global Manufacturer who are currently looking for a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer for 2 years to join the Graduate Engineer Programme within the Business Development Team (BDT).Position: Graduate Mechanical Design EngineerHours: 37.5 hours per week (Monday - Friday)Salary: CompetitiveLocation: Newton AycliffeThe role will provide experience and exposure to:

  • Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE)
  • New Business Opportunities (NBO’s)
  • Mechanical Design & Drawing Office controls

Graduate Engineer ProgrammeThe 2-year programme will provide the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of real projects, enabling the optimisation of existing skills and the development of new ones. Working alongside the supply chain, manufacturing and quality teams will present opportunities to influence innovative and continuous improvement relating to pressure transducer quality whilst increasing delivered output at lower overall cost.Stage 1 (0 - 6 months)

  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of clients products, design principles, manufacturing techniques and safe design
  • Prepare drawings, information and documentation that meet relevant engineering standards to enable production of a range of transducers in line with required specification
  • Geometric tolerancing and tooling
  • CAD/solid-modelling

Stage 2 (6 - 12 months)

  • Carry out design and development work with the guidance of experienced engineers to meet customer requirements
  • Work within defined procedures to ensure that records & controls are maintained
  • Capability study, tolerance analysis and gauge R&R
  • Drawing Office management; change control; phase-in/phase-out support and planning

Stage 3 (12 - 18 months)

  • Support capital investment activities
  • Provide product technical resource for customers and Sales Teams
  • DFMEA
  • Design and optimise to legislative, customer specification and business scope
  • CFD and FEA

Stage 4 (18 - 24 months)

  • Participate in Value Analysis/Value Engineering activities for existing and new products, processes and suppliers to support operational goals and product road-map requirements
  • Project manage a number of tasks and activities to achieve VA/VE objectives
  • Teardown, prototyping, test, evaluation and reporting

General Experience (Stage 1 - Stage 4)

  • Development of core and specialised engineering skills to a world-class standard.
  • Value Analysis/Engineering experience across the product portfolio.
  • Design and reverse-engineering to a high standard.
  • Supporting large CAPEX projects and new supplier development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of supplier CNC machining & stamping; plastic moulding and vacuum forming; potting and gel materials and general electronics assembly.
  • Knowledge associated with assembly processes such as welding; robotic handling; calibration systems and metrology.
  • Development and optimization of high-volume industrial products demonstrating a detailed understanding of the entire design and manufacturing process from customer requirements back to supplier capabilities (DFM).
  • Ability to influence and lead others.

Candidate Requirements (essential):

  • BSc or BEng in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials Technology or Science discipline.
  • Driven to pursue a career in design engineering.
  • Experience of design and modelling software such as Solidworks.
  • Driven to learn and conduct research to achieve results and support growth.
  • Ability to plan, manage and execute multiple projects simultaneously whilst maintaining priorities.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and implement change.
  • Ability to work flexibly under pressure to deliver results.
  • Knowledge and proficient use of a range of IT Systems.

Ability to communicate and interact effectively with internal and external customers - written and verbal - and build strong working relationships.
