Key Responsibilities:
Laboratory Support:
Manage the preparation, maintenance, and safe use of science equipment and materials for lessons, experiments, and practical sessions.
Equipment Management:
Oversee the ordering, stock control, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and chemicals, ensuring all resources are available when needed.
Health & Safety Compliance:
Ensure all science laboratories comply with health and safety regulations, conducting regular checks, risk assessments, and safety audits.
Team Leadership:
Lead and mentor a team of junior technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure smooth operation within the department.
Collaboration with Teaching Staff:
Work closely with teachers to understand the requirements of practical lessons and help design, set up, and clean up after experiments.
Inventory and Budget Management:
Assist with managing departmental budgets and inventory, ensuring efficient and cost-effective use of resources.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
A strong background in science, ideally with a qualification in a scientific discipline (e.g., BSc or equivalent).
Significant experience working as a Science Technician, with proven expertise in managing practical aspects of the science curriculum.
Excellent understanding of health and safety procedures and the ability to apply them in a school laboratory setting.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Experience in supervising and mentoring a team, with a collaborative and supportive approach.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work closely with staff and students.
A proactive and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to address challenges efficiently.
