Job Overview

Macildowie are proud to be working exclusively with a established family run business who are looking for an experienced bookkeeper to join their finance team reporting directly to the finance director. With an impressive employee retention rate of 15 to 20 years (with some employees having worked with the business for over 40 years) this business is seeking a confident and reliable Bookkeeper to join their team. The role will involve overseeing all accounts and payroll responsibilities and reporting directly to the Finance Director. This is a full-time, office-based position that requires a hands-on approach and someone comfortable with phone communication, handling customer and stakeholder queries, and working autonomously within a small finance team.

This business is looking for someone who is passionate about accounts. Existing qualifications or working towards AAT is beneficial but not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire accounts and payroll function, reporting directly to the Finance Director.
  • Process two BACS payment runs each month, handling payments for approximately 50+ suppliers and managing a ledger valued between roughly £100,000 and £300,000.
  • Ensure invoices are sent out promptly and manage payment chasing where necessary.
  • Carry out bank reconciliations and ensure that accounts are accurately maintained.
  • Obtain credit limits with insurers.
  • Provide support with credit control responsibilities, managing outstanding payments, and maintaining good relationships with suppliers and customers.
  • Use Microsoft Business Central accounts system for day-to-day financial tasks.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial reports, including balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintain cash books and daily bank reconciliations for the US office, as well as managing US supplier payments.
  • Work closely with the Finance Director to assist with ad hoc tasks as required.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Confident communicator, particularly over the phone, dealing with a variety of customers and stakeholders.
  • Experience with payroll processing, ideally using ADP payroll system (experience with Sage 50 is a plus).
  • Intermediate Excel skills and a working knowledge of VAT.
  • Experience in processing supplier payments and dealing with invoice queries.
  • Previous experience in a similar Bookkeeping or Accounts role, with a solid understanding of credit control and managing supplier relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small, close-knit team.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Business Central or similar accounting software is an advantage.
