Job Overview:

We are seeking a reliable and experienced 18 Tonne Lorry Driver to join our logistics team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely transporting goods to and from various locations, ensuring timely deliveries, and providing excellent customer service. You will be driving an 18-tonne vehicle and must be experienced in handling large vehicles while adhering to road safety regulations.

This is primarily for out late evening Hub to Spoke operation( Delivering goods from NN distribution centre to out spoke of branches - Milton Keynes, Hemel Hempstead and Colindale currently). However from time to time you may be required to support with day time operations and direct to customer drops. This will all be agreed with you in advance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Driving and Transporting Goods: Safely operate an 18-tonne lorry to deliver goods to clients, suppliers, and distribution centre's across designated routes.
  • Route Planning: Plan and follow efficient routes to ensure timely deliveries and minimize delays.
  • Load and Unload: Assist with the loading and unloading of goods, ensuring items are handled safely and securely. This may involve using manual handling techniques or operating vehicle lifting equipment.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct daily checks on the vehicle before departure, including checking fuel, tyres, lights, and oil levels. Report any defects or issues to the transport supervisor.
  • Customer Service: Represent the company professionally when delivering goods, providing courteous service and addressing any customer concerns during delivery.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all road safety regulations, transport laws, and company policies. Maintain accurate records of deliveries, driver logs, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Health and Safety: Maintain a high standard of health and safety practices, ensuring that the vehicle is driven safely and that goods are transported securely.
Requirements:
  • Valid Driving Licence: Must hold a full and valid C or Class 2 HGV driving licence (18 tonne lorry).
  • Driver Qualification Card (DQC): Must have a valid CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification.
  • Experience: Previous experience driving 18-tonne lorries or similar vehicles is preferred.
  • Route Knowledge: Familiarity with local and regional roads, as well as safe driving practices.
  • Physical Fitness: Must be physically capable of handling and unloading goods as required.
  • Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of road safety and the ability to carry out pre-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Customer Focus: Good communication skills and a friendly, professional approach when interacting with clients and customers.
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience in multi-drop deliveries.
  • Forklift license or experience (for loading/unloading purposes).
  • Knowledge of tachograph and drivers hours regulations.
