General Responsibilities

As the Health, Safety, Environmental, and Compliance (HSE) Manager, you will drive performance across all aspects of Health & Safety, Environmental, and compliance management at our site. You will also play a supportive role across other sites within our business network. Your responsibilities will encompass production processes, engineering, facilities maintenance, training, and monitoring systems.

You will:

  • Foster a Safety and Environmental Culture: Lead the charge in establishing and maintaining a culture of safety and environmental awareness. This involves using a proactive approach to monitor standards through audits and assessments, reporting on KPIs, and conducting regular reviews with the site team.
  • Lead HSE Strategies: Act as the site lead for all HSE matters, developing and implementing strategies to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our team and operations.
  • Promote Environmental Responsibility: Develop and oversee strategies to ensure legal compliance and reduce environmental impacts within the business.
  • Contribute to Site Leadership: As part of the Site Leadership Team, you will work on improvement projects aligned with our long-term strategy, playing a key role in creating a safe and sustainable work environment.

More Specific Duties Include:

  • Advising and guiding management on health, safety, and environmental developments to ensure compliance with all regulations and standards.
  • Coordinating all accident investigations, reporting injuries, diseases, and dangerous occurrences to the HSE as per RIDDOR regulations.
  • Recording and reviewing statistics related to near misses and actual accidents to manage claims and improve safety standards.
  • Ensuring all risk assessments and safe systems of work are completed and maintained, covering physical, chemical, biological, and environmental risks.
  • Auditing and verifying contractors' risk assessments and method statements, ensuring contractors have the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience.
  • Ensuring site compliance with statutory requirements including PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, and controls for Ammonia and Legionella.
  • Coordinating and maintaining the site emergency plan, including conducting relevant drills and practices.
  • Assessing health and safety training needs across the site and working with all departments to ensure training standards are met and maintained.

Reporting

You will report directly to the Director of Operations, with day-to-day coordination through individual site Health and Safety Advisors and/or factory managers.

The Person

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a willingness to work with people at all levels of the organization.
  • The ability to present and train confidently.
  • NEBOSH Qualified, preferable to Diploma or Equivalent

Desirable

  • An Environmental qualification (IEMA) or demonstrable experience.
  • Experience in the food industry or within fast-paced manufacturing.
