Opus People Solutions on behalf of West Northamptonshire Council are seeking a Lawyer / Senior Paralegal (Child Care) to join their team for maternity cover.
This exciting opportunity sits within Law and Governance, which is part of the Corporate Services Directorate in West Northamptonshire Council.

As a Lawyer / Senior Paralegal you will:

  • Assist in the provision of a Legal Service providing legal advice and assistance to the Council.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the Law and Governance Service to deliver excellent quality services across the full range of functions provided by the legal service.

Main responsibilities will include:

  1. Providing legal advice and representation on a variety of matters within the Childcare team to Northamptonshire Children's Trust.
  2. Conducting and managing a wide-ranging caseload of straightforward legal work, including undertaking advocacy and managing a PLO caseload and preparing and drafting legal documents as required in an efficient, effective and timely manner.
  3. Preparing instructions and briefs to Counsel / external legal advisors.
  4. Assisting the Senior Lawyer with complex cases
  5. Promoting a positive image of the Council.
  6. Keeping up to date on relevant new legislation, case law, codes of practice, guidance and policy.
  7. Building and maintaining good working relationships with fellow officers and foster partnership working with external partners / agencies.
  8. Contributing to the development of a customer focused legal service.
  9. Actively challenging and seeking to eliminate any directly or indirectly discriminatory practice or behaviours.

Key skills
