Senior Maintenance Engineer

Our client is a global leader in innovative products, supporting a worldwide customer base. Their products are an integral part of the technical, networking and telecoms industry and to ensure the efficiency of their manufacturing they are recruiting for a Senior Maintenance Engineer to join the equipment maintenance team. This role will involve the hands-on fault finding, improvement and repairs of production equipment.

Location: Towcester, Northamptonshire

Salary: 58,665 - 76,264.50 (DoE)

Hours: 6am - 2pm & 2pm - 10pm (Weekly Rotating)

Days: Monday - Friday

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostic fault finding, repairs, and routine preventative maintenance on highly specialised equipment to ensure optimal functionality. This includes pre-maintenance preparation, scheduling, and thorough post-maintenance cleaning to maintain equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
  • Oversee the safe storage, handling, and usage of chemicals and gases required for processes. Maintain and monitor inventory levels of spare parts, ensuring critical components are always in stock. Manage waste disposal systems to comply with environmental regulations and company standards.
  • Provide structured training and ongoing mentorship to technicians and junior engineers, covering equipment operation, troubleshooting, maintenance protocols, and safety procedures. Foster a culture of continuous learning and skills development to enhance team performance.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with equipment suppliers and specialist service providers. Manage the supervision of external contractors and field service engineers during on-site visits, ensuring work is performed to the required standard and within agreed timeframes.
  • Design and execute comprehensive preventative maintenance programmes aimed at improving equipment utilisation, minimising unplanned downtime, and optimising Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Regularly review and refine these strategies based on performance data and feedback.
  • Lead the implementation and ongoing development of TPM methodologies within the team. Identify opportunities for process improvements and ensure consistent application of TPM principles to enhance equipment reliability and productivity.
  • Compile and present detailed monthly reports on equipment performance metrics, including downtime analysis, maintenance activities, and the progress of key improvement projects. Provide actionable insights to the Engineering Management team to guide strategic decision-making.
  • Act as the point of contact for the Equipment Engineering group in production, planning, and scrap review meetings. Provide data-driven input to address challenges, optimise production efficiency, and reduce equipment-related scrap.
  • Work closely with supply chain teams to integrate equipment spares inventory into the company's stores system. Help establish effective stock management practices to maintain critical spares at optimum levels, reducing lead times and operational risk.
  • Uphold stringent safety and environmental standards by following all site procedures. Participate actively in emergency response training and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment for all team members.
  • Maintain flexibility to provide shift cover during staff absences, emergencies, or high-demand periods. Adapt to changing schedules to support business continuity and ensure production targets are met.

Requirements:

  • HNC/HND or Degree in an engineering discipline (or equivalent).
  • Alternatively, 10 years of directly related experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in following and documenting procedures.
  • Experience in generating work instructions, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Teamworking and stakeholder management skills.
